Rest day in St Jean Pied de Port     7km

Just a bit of mooching around today. Buying a few odds and ends and some food for tomorrow. Working out where the route goes out of the town and finding where the bakery is for a fresh baguette in the morning. It is a good idea to work out the route the path takes as sometimes it is hard to see the markings in the early morning darkness.

The path goes past the church and through this gate. There is a statue of a pilgrim raising his staff in encouragement high above the gate.
You then cross this bridge across the river and then it’s up, up and up.

I think at 7am there won’t be quite this many people in the street:

An exciting day in the mountains lies ahead.
